Field Area Measure
Marea is a GPS field area measure app built for farmers, agronomists, contractors and anyone who needs to measure agricultural fields, paddocks, orchards or grazing land. Get acreage in seconds — by walking the boundary with GPS or tapping pins on a satellite map.
Field Measurement, Simplified
Measuring field area used to mean a wheel, a tape and a notebook. Marea replaces all of that:
- Open the app on the field edge
- Walk the perimeter or tap pins on the satellite map
- Read the area in acres, hectares or whichever unit you prefer
- Save it, share it or export it
You don’t need cellular data once map tiles are cached — Marea works offline in the middle of a 500-acre block just as well as it does in your driveway.
GPS or Satellite — Both Work
GPS Field Measurement
Walk the boundary of the field with your phone. Marea records your GPS position and draws the polygon as you go. Great for fields where boundaries aren’t clearly visible from above — fence lines under tree canopy, irregular pasture edges, or paddocks separated by low hedges.
Satellite Tap-and-Measure
Open the satellite view, find your field and tap to drop pins around it. Faster and often more accurate than walking when the field boundary is visible — cropland edges, ploughed margins, headlands and tracks.
Hybrid
Combine both. Start with GPS, switch to satellite to nudge pins into place. Use the method that fits the field.
Built for Real Field Work
Multi-Field Saving
Save every field with a name. Marea keeps a library of measured fields so you don’t have to re-measure each season. Update boundaries as land use changes.
All Common Field Units
- Acres
- Hectares
- Square metres
- Square feet
- Square kilometres
Sub-Field Measurement
Need to measure a wet patch, a damaged crop area, or a section you’re leaving fallow? Drop a second polygon inside the field — Marea tracks both.
Exports for Farm Software
Export field boundaries as KML files that import into Google Earth, John Deere Operations Center, AgLeader, Climate FieldView, and most precision agriculture platforms.
Who Uses Field Area Measure?
Farmers
Plan crop rotations, calculate seed and chemical orders, document field sizes for subsidies (CAP, BPS, NRCS) and grant applications.
Agronomists & Crop Advisors
Measure trial plots, sample areas and treatment blocks during farm visits. Hand precise boundaries off to clients.
Drone & Spray Contractors
Quote jobs by the hectare or acre. Hand a customer a measured boundary along with the quote — no disputes about how much land was actually covered.
Land Agents & Valuers
Verify field sizes during farm sales, leases and tenancy negotiations.
Conservation & Stewardship
Map stewardship parcels, fallow margins, buffer strips and habitat zones for environmental schemes.
Field Measurement Tips
- GPS works best in the open — Walking field edges under tree cover reduces accuracy. Use satellite refinement for those sections.
- Use the largest unit that fits — A 50-acre field reads more naturally in acres than in square metres. Marea defaults to your locale but you can switch any time.
- Re-measure when boundaries change — Hedge removal, drainage work and land swaps all change field area. Marea makes re-measuring a 30-second job.
- Export your library annually — Periodic KML exports give you a backup and let you share boundaries with advisors.
